According to multiple reports, several military facilities may have been struck. Authorities in nearby nations have urged residents to remain indoors and stay away from military installations as a precaution.
Reuters reported that a large explosion was heard in Abu Dhabi, after which the United Arab Emirates temporarily closed its airspace. Early information suggests that the Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE may have been targeted by ballistic missiles reportedly launched from Iran, resulting in significant explosions.
In Bahrain, witnesses reported smoke rising from the Al Jufair district, where the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters is based, following a suspected strike.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Interior Ministry advised residents to shelter in place after a Patriot missile defense system reportedly intercepted a missile aimed at Al Udeid Air Base. Qatar has also announced the closure of its airspace as a safety measure.
