Newly released photographs from Saturday offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at how senior U.S. officials monitored a major joint military operation carried out by the United States and Israel against key Iranian leadership and strategic facilities.
The images show President Donald Trump seated at a conference table at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida as the mission unfolded. Wearing a white cap with “USA” printed on the front, Trump appears alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio while reviewing maps and receiving updates about the unfolding operation. Administration officials said the strikes targeted more than 30 Iranian government and military locations across the country. According to those officials, the attacks resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Photographs from the meeting reveal detailed maps of the Middle East spread across the table, as well as secure communications equipment used to relay real-time intelligence and damage assessments. Senior advisers and national security staff were also present as the president and his team monitored developments and discussed the progress of the strikes.
Another photograph from Washington shows Vice President J.D. Vance leading a parallel briefing in the White House Situation Room. Seated at the head of the table, Vance was joined by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and several senior military officers. The vice-presidential seal can be seen behind the group as they watched updates and analyzed incoming reports about the operation’s impact.
Reports about Khamenei’s death began circulating shortly after the strikes. Fox News said it confirmed the development with senior Israeli officials familiar with the initial damage assessments. Israel’s Channel 12 also reported that the Iranian leader had been inside a fortified bunker complex at the time it was destroyed during the missile strikes.
According to the same reports, several other senior figures in Iran’s military leadership were also killed in the operation. Among them were Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Gen. Mohammad Pakpour and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh.
During the operation, Trump released a video message on social media addressing the Iranian public directly. In his remarks, he encouraged citizens to take control of their government after what he described as the completion of major combat operations by U.S. and Israeli forces.
“The hour of your freedom is at hand,” Trump said in the video. He urged Iranians to remain indoors during the strikes, warning that the situation outside would be dangerous as bombs continued to fall. Once the military campaign ended, he told viewers, they should move to reclaim control of their country.
“This will probably be your only chance for generations,” Trump said, adding that many Iranians had long asked for American support. He argued that previous administrations had not been willing to take such decisive action but claimed his presidency was prepared to do so.
Trump also emphasized that the United States was backing the effort with what he described as overwhelming military strength. He encouraged Iranians to “seize control of your destiny” and pursue what he called a more prosperous future for their nation.
While much of his message focused on empowering the Iranian population, the president also framed the military campaign as a defensive action intended to protect Americans. He described the Iranian regime as dangerous and argued that the operation was necessary to eliminate what he called imminent threats to U.S. national security.
Trump acknowledged that American service members could face casualties during the conflict, noting that losses are a reality of warfare. Nevertheless, he characterized the mission as a necessary and “noble” effort to stop what he called a radical dictatorship from destabilizing the Middle East and threatening U.S. interests.
He also pointed to what he described as failed diplomatic efforts with Tehran, accusing the Iranian government of continuing to expand its nuclear program. Trump reiterated a long-standing U.S. policy position, stating that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon and declaring that his administration remained committed to preventing that outcome.
