Trump, Clinton Posed Together At 2005 Mar A Lago Wedding

Although Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton later became fierce political opponents, the two once shared friendlier moments in the same social circles. One notable example dates back to 2005, when Clinton attended Trump’s wedding to Melania at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

A photograph from the event shows Trump with his arm around Clinton as the two pose alongside their spouses, former President Bill Clinton and Melania Trump. At the time, the four appeared relaxed and cordial. Years later, the same estate would become politically symbolic when Trump delivered a victory speech there during the 2016 Republican presidential primary season.

During that speech, Trump made clear that Clinton would be his primary opponent in the general election. “I’m going to go after one person: Hillary Clinton,” he declared.

Trump had previously brought up Clinton’s attendance at his wedding during the first Republican presidential debate, when he faced questions about political donations he had made in the past. Responding to criticism over contributions to Democratic causes, Trump suggested that his financial support influenced Clinton’s decision to attend.

“Hillary Clinton—I said be at my wedding, and she came,” Trump said. “She had no choice because I gave to a foundation.”

Reports at the time indicated that Trump may have donated as much as $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation after the wedding.

A spokesperson for Clinton’s campaign, Jennifer Palmieri, dismissed the implication that the invitation was transactional. She explained that the two were simply acquaintances who had moved in similar social and professional circles for years.

“He invited her. They’re acquaintances. This is long, long established,” Palmieri said. She added that it was likely disappointing for Clinton to hear Trump suggest he did not genuinely want her there.

In the early 2000s, both families spent time in overlapping social scenes in New York and Palm Beach. Their daughters, Ivanka Trump and Chelsea Clinton, have also spoken publicly about their own friendship.

Clinton later reflected on her earlier impressions of Trump during an appearance on the television program “Morning Joe.” She said she had known him casually and remembered him as outgoing and personable.

“I didn’t know him that well, but I did know him,” Clinton said. She added that she was surprised by the tone he adopted during the campaign. According to Clinton, the rhetoric he used—often marked by harsh criticism and divisive language—did not align with the impression she previously had of him.

Years after their political rivalry intensified, Clinton again found herself in the public spotlight during a congressional deposition related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

Speaking to reporters afterward, she expressed frustration about some of the questions she received. Clinton said she repeatedly stated she had no relationship with Epstein and had never visited his properties.

According to Clinton, the questioning eventually turned to unusual topics, including conspiracy theories such as “Pizzagate” and even UFOs. She described those lines of questioning as bizarre and said the internet conspiracy theory was particularly offensive.

The closed-door session took place at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center near the Clintons’ home in Westchester County, New York. During the hearing, a brief disruption occurred when Representative Lauren Boebert took a photograph of Clinton, violating confidentiality rules governing the private proceeding.

Clinton’s attorneys requested a pause after the image began circulating on social media. The deposition resumed within about an hour. Later, Clinton asked whether reporters could be allowed into the session after the photograph surfaced, but Representative James Comer, who was overseeing the hearing, denied the request.
